Magdalene

1–2 minutes

My heavy heart
It yearns to break
To do something
To relieve this ache

My tears are welled
Right to the rim
But down my cheeks
They will not swim

I bid my pain
To leave me now
In my sorrow
Enough I’ve drowned

Father hear my desperate plea
From this burden
Set me free

How did you get from there to here?
How did this pain get so real, so near?

Magdalene, our mother and friend
Where did your restless heart find end?

When did shame release,
When did guilt give way to peace?

Our hearts daily mournful cry
What truth we know in mind
With our bodies we deny

Not for earthly pleasure
Do these immoral acts occur
But for a morsel of a taste of love
Men’s reactions do we stir

Magdalene our mother fair
How did you get from here to there?
How did you bring your heart outside,
For all the world to realize;

The truth of who you are
The whole, and not just part
Lies not in acts
But depth of heart.
