Trail Rides with Angels

For my cousin Heather – who felt the burdens of this world were just too much to bear. I think of you often.

Such a funny girl, you made me laugh
So witty, so free
The room lit up when you walked in
“Everyone, look at me!”

I remember mud fights,
I remember horses,
I remember hay bale tag.

I remember home-made play-doh,
I remember bubble baths in our “submarine”

I remember losing touch
But I remember reminiscing

I remember losing you
And not knowing what to do

Now? Just these sweet memories
I think of childhood days gone by
And I thank you for the love you shared
While you were still with us

I believe you’re at peace, home & happy
I’m sure you’re playing in the stars
On trail rides with angels
