How many times
In how many ways
Do you have to prove that you don’t care
Before I believe it?
You are all about you
All about survival
I cannot change your nature
Still I stand out in the open
As the bullets go flying by
Hoping that you’ll save me
Hoping that you’ll prove me wrong
But I’m a smart one
Behind my beating heart
There is a wisdom
There is logic
And there is instinct
We all know, however
What wins out between those choices
My heart walks me toward the cliff
And you nonchalantly push me over
I’ve died a hundred times this past year
You never saved me
You never will
Why won’t it sink in?
And I know it’s not you
It could’ve been anyone
Someone who tugged on my creative side
Someone who made me feel wanted
Some kind of purpose
A dangling carrot
