We Saw

We saw it all
I know you think
Perhaps we didn’t

I know sometimes
You think you failed
That you didn’t do enough
That you didn’t do it right
But we saw…

We saw it differently
We saw so much hard work
So much dedication
Such a big heart
Inside a sometimes grumpy man

And as adults
Now we really see
The stress and fear
That was the truth
Behind the “grumpy” moments

And we feel it now, too,
Sometimes

But we know we’ll be just fine
We’ll be better than fine
Because we watched you be fine

We still see
You work so hard
Just to give away as much,
As much as you possibly can

You are every bit the man
I hope my son grows up to be
You put your family first
In all things
You sacrificed so much
Yes, we saw

I know you think
You think you misused time
But it’s a tricky balance
To be a dad, and a provider
And you were spectacular

Everything we have

Our work ethic
